What
Price For The White House?
What would
you pay for a home with 132 rooms, 35 bathrooms, 28 fireplaces and
3 elevators?
That's just
what HouseValues, Inc. wanted to know; so it asked the nation's
top real estate agents to estimate what the White House's listing
price would be if it were for sale in today's real estate market.
After reviewing
the home's features, including its condition, number of bedrooms
and baths, square footage and historical significance (many of the
elements that go into preparing a good comparative market analysis),
the agents' answered that the famous colonial-style mansion would
command an asking price of $106 million. Of course, to qualify for
a jumbo 30-year, fixed-rate loan at 7.5 percent, and assuming 10
percent down, the proud new owners of the home at 1600 Pennsylvania
Avenue would need to pull down an annual salary of at least $18
million in order to make the $667,000 monthly mortgage payment.
But, hey, it
boasts a number of sought-after amenities, including a tennis court,
jogging track, swimming pool, movie theater, billiard room, bowling
lane, and its own dentist's office. The gardens are nice, too! For
